Without Volunteers for Alaska working in partnership with Global Volunteer Network, I probably would not have made it to Alaska, at least not for some years.

"I really enjoyed my time in Alaska and hope I'll get back someday! Homer was great - and the experience really confirmed my desire to work in environmental education. Since getting back I've been working on a voluntary basis with 4 conservation/environmental places to gain experience. This has paid off as I now have my first paid job!!

The weather here has been dreary for a few weeks but yesterday and today have been beautiful with temperature in the 70's and sunshine all day. My time at the ASLC could not be better. Everyone is friendly and I have learned so much! Yesterday on my day off I went for a boat ride in Resurrection Bay and saw several killer whales. I work 5 days a week at the "Touch Tank" talking to visitors and answering questions about the different invertebrates in the pool that they are able to touch. […] It's great!

The staff at the Sea Life Center are very professional, friendly, flexible and caring. They encourage you to become part of the team. Mandy Morell's "Volunteers for Alaska" gave me an outstanding once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Overall the work with The Alaska SeaLife Center was challenging, yet lots of fun ? I even got the chance to go up on a couple of the aerial surveys to take photos of the hauled out seals on the glacial ice which was just an amazing experience!

This volunteer project was an amazing opportunity and experience. I was able to not only learn a vast amount of information about the marine ecosystem in Alaska, but I was also able to share that information with the children in the education programs I taught. I had the unique opportunity to work with endangered Stellar Sea Lions and Harbour Seals. Being able to explore a new area, volunteer, learn and meet wonderful people are among just a few of the gifts this program offered. I would do it all again without hesitation.

I'm having an excellent time - thank you for helping to organise it! The trips are excellent - I love the Oceanography and the chance to see the Sea Otters. The staff are great - really friendly and appreciative of the work I'm doing.
